Wulanchabu (Tianxin Industrial Park) is the global capital of sebacic acid, the C10 dicarboxylic acid made from renewable castor-oil feedstock via alkali fusion at 250 to 280 °C. The integrated supply chain is geographic: Inner Mongolia produces about 60% of Chinese castor-bean cultivation, with the crop concentrated in Wulanchabu and surrounding Inner Mongolian counties; the sebacic-acid plants sit near the cultivation belt to minimise raw-castor-oil transport cost. Inner Mongolia Wulanchabu Tianxin and Hebei Hengshui Jinghua together account for over 90% of global sebacic-acid production. Sebacic acid (HS 291713) ships into nylon 6,10 and nylon 10,10 polymer (the all-renewable nylon family), polyester polyol for premium polyurethane, DEHS plasticiser for cold-temperature PVC and aerospace hydraulic fluid, and synthetic-ester base oils. The byproduct 2-octanol stream is a separate commercial product sold into surfactant chemistry. Two operator-distinct points. First, the supply chain is acutely sensitive to castor-bean crop yield; drought years in Inner Mongolia spike sebacic-acid prices because alternative supply (Indian, US-cultivated castor) is volume-limited. Second, the sebacic-acid market's "all-renewable" positioning has gained traction since 2020 as bio-based polymer demand grows in EU and US sustainability-driven specifications.
