Where buyers lose money

Five ways a good deal goes wrong after the deposit.

The factory was only a trader.

A Chinese company code shows what a seller is licensed to do. A trader with a factory photo on its website is still a trader, and the price carries its margin.

The duty was the wrong duty.

One wrong tariff line can change the landed cost by more than the whole margin on the order. Most buyers only find out when the broker sends the entry.

Nobody mentioned the anti dumping case.

Many common chemicals from China carry anti dumping orders, and the rate depends on which factory made the goods. The cheapest quote can be the most expensive landing.

The supplier was on a list.

Sanctions and forced labour lists change often. A name you cleared last year can stop a container at the dock this year, with the deposit already gone.

The chemical was not on the register.

Some chemicals cannot be imported until someone has notified or registered them. The goods can arrive perfectly on time and still be unable to leave the port.

Every answer shows the file it came from, and the date we read it.

Duty rates, anti dumping cases, sanctions lists and chemical registers all come from official files. When a file does not store a number, Sourzi tells you so instead of guessing one.

Sourzi is information for planning a purchase. Your customs broker still files the entry, and a name that is missing from a list has not been cleared by that list.
