See the FX hit before the wire leaves your account. Enter an amount and a currency pair below; the tool puts the live mid-market rate next to the bank and Wise working spreads.

Example only. 1.5240 is not today's rate. The live tool fetches a mid, then cuts it by the two spreads it always uses: 0.5 percent and 1.5 percent. You receive less of the target currency. At this example mid, USD 100,000 is AUD 152,400 before any spread.
| Mid-market | 1.5240 · AUD 152,400 |
| Wise-like, 0.5 percent | 1.5164 · AUD 151,638 · costs USD 500 |
| AU big-four, 1.5 percent | 1.5011 · AUD 150,114 · costs USD 1,500 |

Worked example
A USD 124,500 invoice at an example AUD to USD mid of 0.6541. Using the same cuts the tool uses, 1.5 percent means you debit AUD 193,236 and 0.5 percent means you debit AUD 191,294. That is AUD 1,942 on this wire. The mid is an example, not a live quote. Ring your bank desk before the wire.
Frequently asked
Where does the mid-market rate come from?
A public live FX feed (open.er-api.com primary, exchangerate.host fallback). Both publish the inter-bank mid-rate refreshed at roughly hourly granularity. The displayed rate timestamp is the feed publish time, not the moment you opened the page.
Why do the AU big-four bank rates differ from your 1.5 percent figure?
The 1.5 percent overlay is a chemical-trade working assumption. NAB, ANZ, Westpac, and CBA each publish their own retail and commercial board rates, typically in a 0.7 to 2.2 percent corridor around mid depending on the currency pair, transfer size, and customer tier. The overlay in this tool is a fast sanity check on a quote; always confirm the actual working rate with the dealing-room desk before instructing a wire above AUD 100,000.
Why is Wise pegged at 0.5 percent?
Wise publishes a per-currency variable fee schedule (typically 0.35 to 0.7 percent on the major chemical-trade pairs, slightly higher on CNY and small currencies). The 0.5 percent overlay is the centre of that band for AUD-USD, AUD-CNY, USD-EUR. Verify the exact figure on the Wise pricing page for your pair and size before relying on it for a budget.
Does CNY have a usable mid-market rate?
For onshore CNY the answer is no: the PBOC sets a daily midpoint with a band, and onshore is not freely tradable. The tool uses the offshore CNH rate, which is the rate Hong Kong banks quote and the rate most foreign wires actually execute against. Onshore wires through SAFE channels settle at the daily fix, separate from the figure here.
When is this tool the wrong tool?
For any wire above AUD 250,000 or any forward-dated hedge. Treasury desks quote inside a tighter spread for large or recurring volumes and the rate is locked at execution rather than published live. Use this tool to budget and to challenge a quote; use the dealing-room desk to lock the working rate.
