When should I watermark product photos?

Before sending samples to first-time inquirers, before posting on Alibaba or Made-in-China, when sharing on a public RFQ board. Watermarking discourages a competitor from grabbing your photos and using them in their listings; it does not prevent it but raises the friction enough that most lazy copying stops.

What watermark settings work?

Diagonal text watermark across the centre at 40 to 50% opacity, white or red text, font-size proportional to image width (about 6%). Hard to remove without losing image quality; soft enough that the product is still clearly visible.
